KFN is pleased to promote the Kellogg Real Estate Alumni Network's lunchtime panel event discussing the emergence of Cannabis as a viable and unique asset class in the industry. The presenters are real estate professionals who will focus their discussion on cannabis-anchored assets; either cultivation or retail facilities.  

Renee Betzelos (KSM ’85)
Renee co-founded ProTen Realty Group. During her 27 years in commercial real estate, Renee has worked on transactions valued at over $3.5 billion. She has been involved in all aspects of commercial real estate including corporate relocations, building purchases and sales, master planning, renewals, build-to-suits, dispositions and account management. Renee’s specialty is to troubleshoot on difficult transactions. Prior to ProTen, Renee was in charge of the local operations of a national real estate firm, which she led to profitability within 10 months.

 

Paul E. Smithers

Paul E. Smithers has served as our president and chief executive officer since our formation, and is one of our directors. From August 2013 to July 2015, Paul Smithers served as co-founder and chief legal officer of Iso Nano International, LLC, a designer and manufacturer of advanced materials for use in the aerospace, consumer goods, electronics, and safety industries. Prior to his time at Iso Nano, Mr. Smithers was the managing partner of Smithers & Player, Attorneys at Law from September 1989 to July 2013, and was with the law firm of Ropers, Majeski in San Francisco from 1982 through 1988. Much of his 33 years of legal experience has involved both commercial and residential real estate transactions and disputes.

Mr. Smithers is a member of the California Bar and a licensed California real estate broker.
 

Jarrett Annenberg

Mr. Annenberg is a co-founder at NewLake Capital Partners and leads NewLake's acquisition strategy. Prior to NewLake, Mr. Annenberg spent ten years at CBRE and was a Senior Vice President in the Transactions and Advisory Services Group. Mr. Annenberg was the youngest SVP west of New York at the time of his promotion and specialized in HQ transactions as well as managing global real estate portfolios for high-growth companies. He worked with companies in developing strategies that focused on flexibility while mitigating risk to excessive capital costs. In his time at CBRE, Mr. Annenberg worked on over seven million square feet of transactions with total value consideration in excess of $1 billion dollars.
 

R.C. Douglas (KSM ‘17)

R.C. Douglas is a Vice President at Treehouse Real Estate Investment Trust, a Chicago-based company focused on the acquisition and long-term ownership of retail and industrial cannabis properties across the United States. In his role, Mr. Douglas is responsible for managing the company’s existing $250 million portfolio, sourcing and executing new deals, and overseeing capital markets and investor relations activity. Prior to Treehouse, Mr. Douglas was a Director at Ventas, Inc., a leading healthcare REIT, where his responsibilities spanned asset management, acquisitions, corporate finance, and strategy. 

Mr. Douglas holds a B.S. in Management with Honors from Boston College and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
